Extracurriculars
Kappa Phi, Beta Beta Chapter
In the spring of 2012, I pledged Kappa Phi, a women's Christian service organization on campus. Within this organization, we work together to grow in our relationship with Christ and with each other while helping others in our community. Each fall, we host a Pink Week, including a Pink Party, in which we plan activities and raffle prizes to raise money for breast cancer research at Wheeling Hospital. In the three years that I was able to participate in Pink Week, we raised over $3,000. As a group, we also volunteer at the local assisted living facility and travel to cities like Pittsburgh and Washington, DC, to participate in walks for various causes. I was the treasurer of this organization for the 2013-2014 school year.
The Trumpet
The Trumpet is the student-run weekly newspaper on campus. I was a contributing writer for this paper for the 2013-2014 school year. I was responsible for interviewing those involved with the stories I was writing and producing a finished product before the deadline. Throughout the year, I wrote articles about events on campus such as Pink Week, as well as broader articles about topics like the water crisis in January of 2014.
WLU 4-H Club
West Liberty students who had been active in 4-H during their teen years started a 4-H club on campus in 2011. We traveled to the Northeastern Collegiate Conference that year, and to the Young Adult Conference in 2012 and 2014. These experiences let me continue my life as a 4-Her while giving back to the organization and surrounding communities.
Women's Club Soccer
In the fall of 2011, West Liberty started a women's club soccer team that was permitted to play other Division II schools as it would become an official NCAA team in 2012. I joined the team under Barry Christmas, where I played forward and midfield. We had practice every day and played in several games across the tri-state area. Joining the team kept me active in a sport I enjoy while also giving me more teamwork skills.
