I began working at the West Virginia Center for Professional Development in 2012 as a part of the Governor's Internship Program. This organization coordinates several different professional development programs for educators around the state. WVCPD organizes individual sessions for National Board candidates, Safe and Supportive Schools, Advanced Placement teachers, beginning teachers, mentors, and administrators. WVCPD also works to provide teachers with necessary technology skills.
I was part of the Governor's Academy for Teaching Excellence (GATE) under COO Lorrie Smith and was primarily concerned with National Board, Infusing Technology, and Safe and Supportive Schools. These professional development programs are fairly flexible in terms of components offered, and I worked very hands-on with my coworkers and our facilitators to create sessions that would be most beneficial to teachers. Every summer we hosted hundreds of educators to help improve their classroom practices across the board.
