Peer Core Tutor
I applied to become a peer tutor through the Center for Student Learning and Development during my first semester at West Liberty, but I didn't receive my first tutees until the beginning of my sophomore year. For the entirety of the sophomore year, I tutored students in College Algebra. Each semester, I had 5-8 students whom I met with once a week to go over questions and teach concepts missed in class. I also helped students in Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Nature of Mathematics, and Developmental Math. I remained a tutor during my junior and senior years as well.
Besides tutoring individual sessions, I worked the Open Math Labs during which students struggling in any math class could come in for help. Each of these labs lasted two hours, and I typically worked 2-4 labs per week with another tutor. The majority of the students who came to the Open Math Labs needed assistance in College Algebra and Statistics.
I was also registered as an English tutor and at times would help students with essays or other writing assignments as needed, though this was not as prevalent as the time I spent working with students in math.
